Anson Burlingame was born on Nov. 14, 1820 in New Berlin, NY. He was a Republican Diplomat. He was the US Ambassador to China from 1861- 1870. He studied in one of the branches of the University of Michigan and graduated from Havard Law School. He married Jane C. Livermore, and had three children: Edward, Walter and Gertrude. President Abraham Lincoln appointed him as he U.S. minister to Austria. He died suddenly at St. Petersburg on February 23, 1870.
